Rock On!!

(Don't worry there are no spoilers!!)
So Close.. But still so far...

This could have gone down as one of the most sought after movies in the history of Indian cinema.
We Indian cine-goers would have been blessed with a path breaking kinda movie in the form of Rock On!!
But it just misses the bus.

To put it in the simplest of the words, I liked the movie but..
Yeah, it comes with a but.
..but it could have been a much much better movie.

Every frame and sequence starts off great but then becomes dull thereby loosing the potential of making a great impact on the audience.
There are quite a few dull moments in the movie in the middle of rocking songs especially in the 1st half.
The two stories (One current and one from the past) go on together for more time than necessary.

Let's talk about the good things too :
The music is - yeah - rocking!
-- While Meri Laundry ka bill is hip and rocking, Sinbad Sikandar gives out the
message that one should follow his / her dream and should not give up.
-- And Tum ho to is just awesome. What melody and what lyrics. Beautiful.
-- Other songs like Tumhari meri baatein are nice soft melodies.
-- And Rock On, the title song rocks like anything.
-- Remember the climax sequence in Lakshya? (Hrithik Roshan climbs the hill)
-- The background music piece of that scene is used here for this song.
-- It just rocks.
Subject of the movie is new. A very good break from the 'jane tu.. kinda crap'.
Has a good message for the society.

This is what probably went wrong :
Farhan Akhtar chose a wrong movie to let someone else direct a movie he wrote / produced.
He could have done more justice to this movie as a director than as the lead actor.
He could have chosen Amir Khan / SRK to play the lead role instead.

All in all, I believe Farhan Akhtar has done a great job as an actor though he has no experience of it.

A very good movie just falling short of being GREAT.

  3. Hey Bhushan,
You are right man.. It's not necessary that you'd like the movie that someone else likes. It's all about perception.
Jane tu.. well, I didn't feel anything new in it. Haven't we watched the college romance in several movies like Mai Hu Na and the like...?
And moreover, I didn't find any message from the film.
    So...
Anyways, I am glad you liked my review. Keep visiting the blog.

  4. All in all , I think it was a nice try, but they have screwed up some of the most important scenes( 4 friends reunion after 10 years)in the movie..There is not much role for the heroine..and it would have been good if they had shown farhan not so well settled in life as well...

Farhan, u r good as a director than a actor and ur voice is not that good as well.. At times, u sound like javed akhtar..

  5. Hey Prasanna, very good review pal. One correction though, the story has been written by the director itself and not Farhan as u have mentioned in the blog.

  7. Hi,
What I feel about the music of the movie is, when you listen to the music, you feel like its already a hit rock band, unlike the way it is presented in the movie, a struggling one and not having enough funds.
Farhan's dialog delivery, feels like every statement he is making is poping out after a pat on the back.
The story: How can a mainstream bollywood movie override the clash between two friends years ago so easily. And post reunion, the band did not look like one. One of them has just emerged from ego issues, the other is having tumour out of no where, the third one is going abroad, and the fourth was jiggling between them.
All in all, when you have so much to say about a movie, it sure is worth watching.
    Go for it.

  8. Sanu,
That's a very interesting way to look at the movie.
Rather too rational I must say. Anyways, it does deserve the accolades of being called path-breaking? Thanks for your comments.

  9. Nice Blog though! Still can't criticize that the "Jaane Tu..." was all that bad! It's an individual perception as said earlier...Let's not compare the movies and give the review...
Again...Coming to Farhna's voice definitely not at all clear as expected...But atleast one doesn't have to crib after watching the entire movie...it's worth watching if one has essence of music!!! Ofcourse the "Tum Ho..." is simply fantabulous!
